Retaining the market at the heart of Rathbone Market
The retention and enhancement of the much-loved market has always been one of the guiding principles of the Rathbone Market redevelopment proposals.
Since construction started on phase one, the market has been located on a temporary site immediately to the east of the phase one development area. As well as repositioning the permanent market stalls, ECF provided the market with a number of temporary stalls and Newham Council launched a campaign to attract new traders to Rathbone Market.
While phase two is being built, the market will temporarily relocated along the Barking Road.
When phase two has been completed, the Market will move to its permanent new home – the market square. In this final permanent location, the market will bigger than in recent years and will be set in an attractive landscaped public space.
